30 Boone County mailboxes damaged, 2 Fort Mitchell teens face charges

Two teens face charges after more than 30 mailboxes and windows on a home under construction in Boone County were found damaged Sunday, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies were alerted to the damaged mailboxes on River Road in Hebron on Sunday morning.

Just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening, a resident reported a vehicle repeatedly passing in front of his home. Boone County deputies investigated and stopped a vehicle occupied by two 17-year-old males from Fort Mitchell, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies found marijuana, alcohol and a baseball bat in the vehicle, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies received consent and searched one teen’s cell phone and found evidence that he was involved in the earlier reported crimes, according to the sheriff's office.

The other teen's cellphone was also seized and deputies will petition for a warrant to search it, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.

Both teens were later released to their parents.

The investigation continues and there is a possibility of at least one other suspect who was notpresent at the time, deputies said.

One teen is charged with 33 counts of criminal mischief, one count of burglary, one count of possession of marijuana and one count of possession of alcohol by a minor. The other juvenile is charged with one count of possession ofmarijuana and one count of possession of alcohol by a minor.
