1,000 Players In Transfer Portal: College Basketball World Reacts
Ever since the NCAA implemented it’s new transfer rules back in April 2021, the number of players utilizing the transfer portal has skyrocketed.
With the Final Four still remaining in this year’s 2021-22 college basketball season, a whopping 1,000 Division I men’s basketball players have entered their names into the portal, per CBB recruiting outlet Verbal Commits.

The college basketball world took to Twitter to react to this absurd number of names in the NCAA transfer portal.
“The college basketball Transfer Portal. Crazier than Rush Hour on your nearest interstate highway,” one fan wrote
“There are a THOUSAND kids in the portal right now. You don’t even have to worry about your team stinking the year before, you can get an entire new team the next year,” another added.

Among these 1,000 transfer names are five-stars, Xavier Foster (Iowa State), Khristian Lander (Indiana) and Samuell Williamson (Louisville). Four-stars Shareef O’Neal (LSU) and Dontaie Allen (Kentucky) also recently entered their names into the portal.
The NCAA’s 2021 “one-time” transfer rule allows college athletes to transfer one time without being forced to sit out a year. While this new rule gives greater empowerment to players, it also effects the way coaches recruit talent and build programs with a longterm plan.
With plenty of time before the start of the 2022-23 season, this 1,000-name list will only grow in the coming months.
