NewJeans’ Hanni Is the Ultimate Gucci Girl

K-pop star Hanni has a firm sense of self, especially when it comes to her personal style.

Whether she’s onstage with her fellow NewJeans members or taking some downtime while touring the world with the hitmaking girl group, the singer uses fashion as an extension of her own creativity. That’s what makes Hanni an organic fit as a global ambassador for Gucci, and why she has returned to front the brand’s latest campaign celebrating its signature Horsebit 1955 Bag and Horsebit 1953 loafers.

The campaign—helmed by Gucci creative director Sabato De Sarno and photographed by Tyrell Hampton on location in Seoul—sees Hanni posing at notable sites and attractions throughout the city. Alongside recognizable iterations of the Horsebit 1955 bag, Hanni introduces three new iterations of the accessory, available for purchase exclusively in the South Korean capital. She is also one of a small group of women to model the 1953 loafer in an official campaign for the brand.

“It’s an understatement to say how much of an honor it is to be a part of another campaign alongside the Horsebit bag, which holds a very special place in my heart, as it was my first campaign shoot,” Hanni tells Harper’s Bazaar in an exclusive. “Just being able to play around with all the different ways they styled the Horsebit bag was so much fun—it felt like a new persona of me, but still very natural, so I really enjoyed that aspect.”

In the new campaign, the pop star can be seen styling the two hero pieces in a number of different ways, including with a casual sweatshirt and Gucci logo–embossed miniskirt, and in a sleek knit tank top, straight-leg jeans, and a luxe leather jacket.

“I like to wear really casual and comfy looks with my Horsebit bag,” she says. “I think the bag itself is very simple yet elegant, and I personally think it pairs well with casual looks. The way [NewJeans] dresses when we perform is actually the kind of style I really like and feel most comfortable and confident in! So I try to style myself in a similar way, but play around with different items in my daily attire.”

Of course, being able to travel the world with NewJeans helps when it comes to shaping Hanni’s outlook on style.

“Being able to immerse myself in something I love so much, and to be able to share these experiences with my closest friends, is something I still find hard to believe and don’t take for granted,” she says. “I feel like the more we experience and see, the more I learn to appreciate everything.”

According to Hanni, fans can expect more from her and the rest of NewJeans soon. Fear not, Bunnies—they’ll be back before you know it.

“We have so, so much in store! First of all, the upcoming comeback is something we are very excited about,” she says, noting the Bunnies Camp fan meeting and concert at the Tokyo Dome, which will take place June 26 and 27. “There is just so much more in the future as well that I can’t wait for.”
