Newcomers Bradley Chubb and Jeff Wilson Jr. play major snaps in Dolphins’ win in Chicago

The Miami Dolphins wasted no time getting Bradley Chubb and Jeff Wilson Jr. involved after bringing them in ahead of the trade deadline Tuesday.

Chubb played 52 snaps — the second most among the Dolphins’ outside linebackers — and Wilson paced the running backs with 33 snaps in the Dolphins’ 35-32 win against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

“I figured I would,” Chubb said. “I went out there and did everything in my control, in my abilities. I’m glad how it turned out, with the dub.”

The linebacker finished with just one tackle, but came close on a couple sacks, which left he and Miami (6-3) with mixed feelings. He was around the ball a lot, which was good, but he was also frustrated with himself for leaving a few sacks on the table.

He did, however, help keep the rotation fresh and the Dolphins’ linebackers finally did get home to sack Bears quarterback Justin Fields twice in the fourth quarter in Chicago.

Miami acquired Chubb from the Denver Broncos in exchange for a first-round pick last week and signed the linebacker to a five-year, $110 million extension Thursday.

Wilson, who cost just a fifth-round pick, was the real bright spot, though. The tailback got nine carries and ran for 51 yards, and his 28-yard run in the second quarter was the longest of the season so far for Miami.

He also caught three passes for 21 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter, which wound up being the decisive score.

“He’s a big-game player that really thrives when his number is called upon,” coach Mike McDaniel said, “and to bring that aggressiveness and then made a couple plays in the pass game that were pretty cool.”

Rowe returns to starting lineup

Left tackle Terron Armstead (toe/Achilles), outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips (quad), safety Eric Rowe (hip) and tight end Tanner Conner (knee) were all active against the Bears (3-6) after being listed as questionable to play. Rowe started and recorded seven tackles after the Dolphins surprisingly made him inactive for their win against the Detroit Lions last Sunday.

Miami made the following players inactive: right tackle Austin Jackson (ankle/calf), wide receiver River Cracraft (illness), running back Myles Gaskin, rookie wide receiver Erik Ezukanma and rookie quarterback Skylar Thompson.
