Nevada girls golf keeps climbing, boys soccer bounces back

The Nevada girls golf team had another top performance when it competed at the Ballard Invite last week.

The Cubs competed against two other teams at the invite on April 15, placing first overall with a total team score of 177.

Nevada placed 13 strokes ahead of second-place West Marshall, who finished in second with a score of 190, while Ballard landed in third with a score of 222.

Leading the Cubs was senior Olivia Axmear, who was the meet medalist with a score of 41. Senior Reagan Schmidt also performed well, placing third with a score of 44.

Also scoring for Nevada was sophomore Lauren Schmidt and junior Caitlin Johnson, who tied for fifth after scoring a 46, each.

Boys soccer bounces back

The Nevada boys soccer team put an end to its three-game losing skid by rebounding with a pair of wins this past week.

The Cubs opened their week against Grand View Christian on April 18, where they won 4-0.

Senior Kaden Weber and sophomore Gavin Egeland led the way in the win, with each scoring two goals for Nevada.

Nevada then followed that with a win over Iowa Falls-Alden on April 19, winning 3-0.

The Cubs will look to keep up their winning ways when they take on Gilbert at 7 p.m. April 25 at Nevada High School.

Boys golf remains on top

The Nevada boys soccer team continued its successful season after it competed in a pair of meets last week.

The Cubs began the week competing in the West Marshall Golf Tournament on April 15, where they placed first overall against 10 other teams.

Nevada finished with a score of 317, one point of second-place PCM, to grab the win at the tournament.

The Cubs were led by freshman Parker Rodgers, who finished second at the meet with a score of 73.

Senior Kyle Kingsbury and freshman Luke Hassel were also key in the win, tying for fifth with a score of 79.

Nevada then built on its win when it hosted a meet with North Polk and Colfax-Mingo on April 19. The Cubs place first overall once again with a score of 155.

Kingsbury led the way this time, earning first after finishing with a score of 36.

Hassel also had another strong day, tying for second with a score of 39, while junior Jameson Lawler followed in fourth with a score of 40.

Junior Easton Gray was the final scorer for the Cubs, also tying for fourth with a score of 40, to help Nevada earn the win.
