The NBA office handed down a $50,000 fine to the Brooklyn Nets after Sunday night’s game. According to the league, the team broke New York’s health and safety protocols when it comes to COVID-19; allowing point guard Kyrie Irving to join the team after attending the game.

Per the NBA’s PR account, “The violation occurred when the Nets permitted Kyrie Irving, who was in attendance at the game, to enter the team’s locker room.”

NBA Twitter was all over this one.

“LOL,” tweeted Bulls blogger Jason Patt.

College basketball podcaster ‘Nata Edwards had the same reaction.

“The Nets have been fined $50,000 for permitting Kyrie Irving, who was in attendance at Sunday’s home game against the Knicks, to enter the team’s locker room,” tweeted NBA correspondent Marc Stein.

“The vaccine is free…” tweeted the Washington Post‘s Michael Lee.

“Play stupid games, win stupid prizes,” said sports blogger Mason Ginsberg.

“Unreal,” replied one user.

“Like this is real life where we are rn…” commented the “Talkin’ Nets” podcast.

“Adam Silver is not just complacent, but proactively enforcing what he himself has agreed is wrong,” tweeted Barstool’s Coach Duggs. “What kind of message does that send?”

It’s a hot button issue around the NBA right now. But as it stands, these are the rules in place.
