Netflix true crime documentary Unsolved Mysteries has announced there's been a huge update in one of the show's biggest cases.

Episode four of the series, titled 'No Ride Home', focused on the case of Alonzo Brooks, a 23-year-old who was found dead after attending a house party.

Witnesses at the party said that Brooks, who was of African-American and Mexican descent, was the target of racial slurs from other guests.

His body was found a month after the party in a creek near the house outside of La Cygne, Kansas. No-one was ever arrested in relation to the case and his autopsy could not determine his cause of death.

On Tuesday (July 21) the Unsolved Mysteries' Twitter account provided a huge update on the case, reporting that Brooks's body had been exhumed after his case was recently reopened by the FBI.

Last month the FBI had offered a $100,000 reward for any tips that lead to an arrest in the case.

Speaking to Variety last week, the series' executive producer Terry Dunn Meurer revealed that Brooks's case was the one they'd received the most tips on.

"Alonzo Brooks was probably [the case] we've received the most emails on," Meurer said. "Lots of theories that we had already heard when we were producing the episodes, but there are some new names that have come in and that we forwarded onto the FBI.

"There were a lot of people there at that party, somebody witnessed what happened. We just hope that they'll come forward," she continued.

"The FBI offering that $100,000 dollar reward, which they just announced in the last month. That was so incredible and hopefully motivates somebody to come forward with what they know in that case, because somebody knows."

Unsolved Mysteries is available on Netflix.
