Jerry Seinfeld's new movie Unfrosted has been awarded a low Rotten Tomatoes score after landing on Netflix.

Directed by and starring the Seinfeld legend, the quirky film charts cereal company Kellogg's' attempts to destroy its competition with a revolutionary breakfast pastry known as Pop-Tarts.

Melissa McCarthy, Hugh Grant, Peter Dinklage, Amy Schumer, Christian Slater, Dan Levy and Dean Norris all appear in its impressive cast.

However, based on 17 reviews at the time of rating, the movie's Rotten Tomatoes score sits at 29%.

Below is a round-up of some of the reviews, with a common complaint being a lack of storyline.

Collider

"It might seem sort of ridiculous to want more out of a movie about Pop-Tarts and to expect that Seinfeld's first movie wouldn't be more than just a series of quick quips.

"But considering we're in a world where Barbie can make $1.4 billion and become a commentary on feminism and the patriarchy, or Tetris, Air Jordans, and Flamin' Hot Cheetos can get their own halfway decent biopics, it's a shame Unfrosted doesn't try a bit harder."

TheWrap

"If you thought Jerry Seinfeld's funniest moments were in his American Express ads, then Unfrosted is the film for you. The detached and generic jokes all play out with a bright, rhythmless conformity... The humour is thuddingly blunt and the punchlines constantly call attention to themselves, which robs them of their punch."

The Daily Beast

"Unfrosted squanders the majority of its good ideas... and no matter the enthusiasm of Seinfeld, McCarthy, and the rest of their ensemble, the action rarely exhibits much comedic energy."

SlashFilm

"I could feel my inner snob trying to fight against the charms of Unfrosted, but in the end, I succumbed to what Seinfeld and company were peddling.

"I can't imagine this as the type of comedy I revisit ever again — the jokes will have grown as stale as a month-old Pop-Tart. But in the moment, it (mostly) worked for me. As a movie, Unfrosted is weak. As a delivery system for a barrage of funny, silly jokes, it's part of a nutritious breakfast."

The Guardian

"There's a steady stream of excellent gags, creating a rising crescendo of silliness similar in effect to Seinfeld's own distinctive falsetto-hysterical declamation at the moment of ultimate joke-awareness."

Unfrosted is now streaming on Netflix.
