Netflix has dropped a new trailer for season five, part one of the romantic drama series Virgin River.

Set to premiere next month, the new season will see plenty of drama for the residents of Virgin River, including new relationships, breakups and a terrifying wildfire that threatens the entire town.

First up in the trailer, we get an update on Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) as they prepare for the arrival of their new baby.

"You're going to be a fantastic father. You might even be better than me at it," Mel jokes to her partner as they discuss their impending arrival.

However, things are far from settled in Mel's life as she weighs up her future at the clinic in light of her high-risk pregnancy. The decision will surely upset the town's new doctor Cameron (Mark Ghanimé), who's still battling his unrequited feelings for her.

Elsewhere, we see romantic beginnings for Preacher (Colin Lawrence), while Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) and Denny (Kai Bradbury) continue to grow closer.

We also get a glimpse of the devastating wildfire that nearly engulfs the Northern California town. "That's Virgin River," Jack tells Mel as the pair watch in horror while smoke rises above the trees.

Despite the hardships, wildfires and apparent hostage situation, the town's residents pull together and come back stronger than ever.

"We will rise from the ashes," says Mayor Hope McCrea (Annette O'Toole). "That's the power of Virgin River."

What's shown in the trailer tells only part of what's to come in season five. An official synopsis for the new season reveals that Jack will finally confront his "demons", and Hope and Doc (Tim Matheson) will attempt to find solace in their family and each other "after their respective impairments throw their identities into question".

Virgin River seasons 1-4 are streaming now on Netflix. Season 5 will premiere Part 1 on September 7 and Part 2 on November 30.
