Netflix has released first-look images of The Last Kingdom's sequel film Seven Kings Must Die.

The film will follow protagonist Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Bamburgh, played by Alexander Dreymon) in the wake of the death of King Richard. An all-out battle for the crown ensues, and when an ally comes to him for help, Uhtred is torn between finally fulfilling his dream to see England united, or helping someone close to him.

You won't have to wait long to see how it all plays out, as Seven Kings drops on Netflix on April 14.

Dreymon said of the movie (via Variety): "It has been such an honour to be part of telling this story for all these years. As an actor, I have been so challenged and gratified by the privilege of playing Uhtred.

"Hanging up Uhtred's sword after filming Seven Kings felt, ironically, heavy – even though I know that our tale has reached its conclusion. As an EP [executive producer] on the show, I could not be more proud of the hundreds of people who spent thousands of hours to make the best product possible.

"As for our loyal fans… what can I say? You are the reason we've reached this point and got to bring our saga to the end. This, as it always has been, is for you."

The Last Kingdom has had quite the journey to get to where it is today. It started off as a series on BBC Two in 2015 (although it actually premiered on BBC America first), with Netflix co-producing the second series. The streaming service took over completely for series 3 to 5, and although the show ended last year, it has been given a film to wrap up the storyline.

All of The Last Kingdom is available to stream via Netflix now, with Seven Kings Must Die dropping on April 14.
