Netflix has added erotic thriller Femme, which is available to stream now.

The film stars Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Candyman) and George MacKay (1917), in a new and refreshing take on the noir genre.

While it was released in UK cinemas at the end of last year, the movie is now available to stream for the first time.

Femme follows Jules (Stewart-Jarrett), a drag queen who is assaulted by Preston (MacKay) in a homophobic attack.

Months later, Jules meets his attacker in a gay sauna. But Preston doesn't recognise him out of drag, so Jules uses the opportunity to infiltrate his life and get his revenge.

The film also stars the likes of John McCrea, Aaron Heffernan, Antonia Clarke, Moe Bar-El and Asha Reid.

Femme premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival last year and received favourable reviews from critics, plus it currently sits on an impressive score of 97% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

In a statement for the European Film Awards, the film's directors and writers Ng Choon Ping and Sam H Freeman said: "The seed of Femme came from our desire to flip the classic hyper-masculinity of the Neo-noir thriller on its head.

"By putting a queer protagonist at the heart of our revenge story, we aimed to put our own stamp on a genre that we love but from which we have often felt excluded."

In December, Femme's stars spoke to Digital Spy and MacKay explained what he wanted audiences to take away from the film.

"I hope that it sparks reflection and conversation about identity," he said, "about the elements of ourselves that we perform and the elements that we hide."

Stewart-Jarrett added: "I think we need to think about violence against queer people. We need to talk about it. It happens constantly and I think we open up that subject.

"We talk about identity, we talk about toxic masculinity. These are things that we should be talking about and we should be confronting in cinema. We have to have people that we don't always see on screen."

Femme is available to stream on Netflix now.
