Nearly 10,000 Optimum customers in Morris County experiencing service outages. Here's why

Nearly 10,000 Optimum customers in Morris County were experiencing service outages on Thursday evening after a truck took down wires.

"Some customers in Morris County are experiencing a loss of services due to trucks ripping down nearby fiber lines. Our crews are on the scene actively working to restore services for our customers," wrote an Optimum spokesperson in an email.

As of 9:30 p.m., Optimum was reporting 123 outages impacting 9,944 customers, according to the company's website. As of 11:30 p.m., there were 9,787 without service,

The outage map showed customers affected from Morris Plains north to Boonton. Some customers reported losing service around 5:30 p.m.

Some frustrated customers took to social media. One hockey fan posted on X, formerly Twitter: "Listening to the @NYRangers on an old school radio since @optimum has a [bleeping] outage in 5 towns including mine."
