What to do in, near Wichita this weekend: Bacon party, Depression glass sale, live music

The Fourth of July is over, but the July calendar is still full of fun activities in Wichita.

Here are a few events people can check out this weekend and into next week:

Bacon and beverages

4-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Hartman Arena, 8151 N. Hartman Arena Drive

Air Capital Bacon, Bourbon & Brews, an annual food and drink event for ages 21 and over, returns to Hartman Arena on Saturday and will again include sampling of more than 75 beers, bacon samples made by 14 local restaurants and vendors, a bacon eating contest and live entertainment. With a ticket upgrade, people also can attend a bourbon tasting. General admission tickets are $35 but increase to $40 on Saturday. The event lasts from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at www.hartmanarena.com

Danielle Nicole at Wave

7 p.m. Friday, Wave, 650 E. Second St.

Blues artist Danielle Nicole will perform at Wichita’s Wave music venue this weekend. Nicole is a former member of the band Trampled Under Foot who went solo in 2015 and has since been nominated for a Grammy and won several blues awards. Among her most popular songs: “Take It All,” “Save Me” and “Cry No More.” The doors for Nicole’s performance will open at 6 p.m. on Friday, and the show will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased waveict.com

Depression glass show

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Wellington High School, 1700 E. 16th St., Wellginton

Antique glass collectors will want to check out the National Depression Glass Association’s 46th annual Convention Show & Sale, which will be held Saturday and Sunday at Wellington High School. The show will feature nationally known dealers from around the country offering American glassware, and though the emphasis will be on Depression-era glass, pieces from the Victorian era through mid-century modern also will be included. The event, which lasts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, also will feature hourly door prizes, seminars and concessions. Admission is $8, good for both days.

Warbird Weekend concludes

Friday through Sunday, 1788 S. Airport Road at Eisenhower Airport

Wichita’s last chance to attend Wichita Warbird Weekend, a five-day event where visitors can explore nine different historic aircraft, is this weekend. Four of the airplanes will offer flight opportunities for visitors, and another five will be on the ground for people to see close up. On Saturday, the Echoes Band will perform 1980s hits in the hangar at 7 p.m. Food trucks and beverages will be available on Saturday night. Warbird Weekend continues from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the B-29 Doc Hangar, Education and Visitor Center, 1788 S. Airport Road at Eisenhower Airport. Admission is $10 per person or $20 per family at the door of the event.

Doug Daze Music Festival

12:30 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday, 4214 N. 143rd St.

The Doug Daze of Summer Music Festival is back for a second year and invites attendees to camp out, enjoy food trucks and vendors, and see seven bands. It’s from 12:30 p.m. on Saturday to 2 a.m. on Sunday at a farm near northeast Wichita, 4214 N. 143rd St. Bands will perform from 2 to 1:15 a.m., and the lineup includes Fast Food Junkies and headliner the Jacob Jolliff Band. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased at eventbrite.com. Primitive camping (no hookups) is included with ticket purchase. RVs and generators are permitted. All guests must be 21 years and up. No dogs are allowed.

Tuan Hung concert

8 p.m. Saturday, Kansas Star Casino, 777 Kansas Star Drive, Mulvane

Vietnamese composer and performer Tuan Hung will perform on Saturday at the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane. Hung is known for his multi-instrumentalist pieces and his blending of Western classical music with Vietnamese styles. He’ll be joined at the show by several other performers. It starts at 8 p.m., and tickets are at $30-$50 at ticketmaster.com

Jack and the Beanstalk

Thursday-July 16, Crown Uptown Theatre

As a part of its “Once Upon a Time” series, Wichita Children’s Theatre & Dance Center is putting on a production of “Jack and the Beanstalk,” the classic fairy tale about a boy who sells his cow for magic beans and gets into all kinds of trouble. Shows are at 10 a.m. and noon Thursday through July 16 at the Crown Uptown Theatre, 3207 E. Douglas Ave. Tickets are $9 and can be reserved by calling Wichita Children’s Theatre at 316-262-2282.
