“NCIS: Hawai'i” Canceled at CBS After 3 Seasons and Franchise's 1,000-Episode Milestone
The island spinoff starred Vanessa Lachey, who made history as the franchise's first female lead

CBS has made a decision to cancel the island-based spinoff, PEOPLE has learned. The procedural will air its season 3 finale — and now series finale — on Monday, May 6.
NCIS: Hawai'i debuted in 2021 and starred Vanessa Lachey, who made history as the franchise's first female lead and took on the role of Jane Tennant, head of the fictional Naval Criminal Investigation Service at the Pearl Harbor Field Office.
In addition to Lachey, the series starred Alex Tarrant, Noah Mills, Yasmine Al-Bustami, Jason Antoon, Tori Anderson and Kian Talan. During the show's third season, LL COOL Jreprised his role as NCIS: LA's Sam Hanna.

Vanessa Lachey as Jane Tennant on 'NCIS: Hawaii'Before the series' premiere, Lachey shared an emotional video celebrating her historic casting to Instagram in September 2021. Alongside a teary clip of her telling her friends and family she had landed the role, the Love Is Blind host opened up about how the fateful call had "changed" her life forever.
"I remember the day I got the call 'You got the job!'" she wrote in the caption. "I will never forget it! Dreams do come true. One week from today, our show premieres and I'm beyond grateful for this opportunity. My life is changed forever. ❤️."
Shortly after her casting, she and her husband Nick Lachey relocated to the Aloha State — where the show films on location — along with their three kids: Camden John, Brooklyn Elisabeth and Phoenix Robert.

Nick and Vanessa Lachey pose with their childrenAt the time, Lachey revealed her husband had the "most supportive thing he could have said" when she broke the news.
"I just gave him the biggest hug," she recalled. "He said, 'This is your time. And I will do whatever I need to do to support you in that. I've seen you work so hard. This is your time. Let's go.' And I'm like, thank you!"
News of NCIS: Hawai'i's cancellation comes after the franchise hit its 1,000-episode milestone amongst its five series on April 15. In celebration of NCIS and it's achievements, the actress exclusively told PEOPLE about what it's meant to be a part of the milestone as a groundbreaking addition to the crime-fighting family.

"It’s an honor to be able to add to this incredible franchise and to do it as the first female lead has meant more to me than I can ever express," she reflected. "It shows the incredible evolution and longevity that NCIS continues to give its fans."
Lachey said that getting to have a "family" both "across the generations as well as continents" is what she loved most about being a part of the NCIS universe.
"Not only with our cast but the fans as well," she added. "The NCIS franchise is all over the world and it brings people together to watch and talk about, as well as provide comfort and entertainment, which is what you want when you dive into a show."

NCIS: Hawai'i airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
