NC State Wolfpack beats Wake Forest Demon Deacons 30-21 in ACC Atlantic Division game

As freshman MJ Morris gets his first start as N.C. State’s quarterback, Wake Forest’s Sam Hartman looks to rebound from a bad showing at Louisville as the No. 21 Pack (6-2, 2-2 ACC) and No. 20 Demon Deacons (6-2, 2-2) play under the lights at Carter-Finley Stadium Saturday at 8 p.m.

The game will be broadcast on ACC Network and News & Observer columnist Luke DeCock and photographer Ethan Hyman are at the key ACC Atlantic Division rivalry game and will have updates from all the action.

Dunn FG extends Pack’s lead: NC State 30, Wake Forest 21. 4Q

Dunn made 25 yard field goal to add to the Pack’s lead with 2:54 remaining in the game.

Hartman connects with Perry: NC State 27, Wake Forest 21. 4Q

With 6:54 remaining in the game, Wake scored its first points of the second half as Hartman completed a 29 yard pass to A.T. Perry. The Demon Deacons’ first three drives of the second half ended with a punt followed by a pair of interceptions.

Moore pressures Hartman, Wake QB throws third INT

Pressured by Isaiah Moore, Hartman threw his third interception of the night on the opening drive of the fourth quarter. Aydan White picked off the second down pass at the N.C. State 27.

Dunn 51-yard FG; Fagan pick: NC State 27, Wake Forest 14. 3Q

Chris Dunn made a 51 yard field goal to extend the Pack’s second-half lead. The 5-play, 17-yard scoring drive followed an interception by Cyrus Fagan. On fourth and 11, Fagan picked off Hartman at the N.C. State 20, returning it 30 yards.

Pack scores first in second half: NC State 24, Wake Forest 14. 3Q

After a pair of quick drives ended with punts for N.C. State and Wake Forest to open the third quarter, the Pack went 80 yards on 15 plays that took 7:33 off the clock for the first score of the second half. A one-yard pass from Morris to Jones ended the touchdown drive, which included a 20 yard pass from Morris to Devin Carter and a 15 yard pass from Morris to Keyon Lesane on 3rd down.

Morris to Jones for TD: NC State 17, Wake Forest 14. 2Q

Morris completed a 13 yard TD pass to Darry Jones to put the Pack back on top. The pass completed N.C. State’s second consecutive touchdown drive. In the first half of his first start, Morris completed 6 of his 13 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

Hartman connects with Morin: Wake Forest 14, NC State 10. 2Q.

Pressured by Drake Thomas, Hartman completed a 24 yard pass to Taylor Morin for Wake’s second consecutive touchdown of the game. The pair of TD drives followed the Demon Deacons’ opening three drives which resulted in an interception followed by a punt and then a field goal.

Morris to Lesane for TD: NC State 10, Wake Forest 7. 2Q

N.C. State had a quick answer in response to Wake’s touchdown run. The Wolfpack went 71 yards on six plays that ended with Morris completing a 12 yard TD pass to Keyon Lesane. On the second play of the scoring drive, Morris completed a 44-yard pass to Lesane for a first down at the Wake 30.

Turner runs in TD: Wake Forest 7, NC State 3. 2Q

Christian Turner ran two yards up the middle to score the first touchdown of the game with 10:19 remaining in the first half. The TD run completed a 10-play, 75-yard drive — with included two passes of 15 or more yards and 13-yard run for Turner.

Dunn FG after Harris pick: NC State 3, Wake Forest 0. 1Q

After Jakeen Harris intercepted Hartman at the N.C. State 32, the Pack ran eight plays for 28 yards before settling for a 33 yard field goal from Chris Dunn.
