North Carolina is headed to Boone this week to face Appalachian State in a highly anticipated game.

Could N.C. State be next?

The Wolfpack has lined up a 2025 nonconference game against App State in Boone as part of a home-and-home series, the school confirmed to The News & Observer. The Mountaineers will return the game in Raleigh in 2026.

It will be the Wolfpack’s first trip to Boone and the first game between the schools since 2006. The Pack and App State have played six times, all in Raleigh, and N.C. State has won all six.

The first game would be played at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Sept. 6, 2025 and the game at Carter-Finley Stadium on Sept. 26, 2026.

N.C. State and App State have not played each other since 2006, Chuck Amato’s last season as NCSU’s head coach. The Pack won 23-10 in the season opener – ASU’s only loss in a 14-1 season under former coach Jerry Moore as the Mountaineers took the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision title.
