The Miami Heat could be on the verge of securing one of the biggest trades of the NBA’s offseason period.

According to reports, the Heat are showing major interest in a potential sign-and-trade for Raptors All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry.

Lowry is set to hit the free agency market this summer. He is reportedly a major target for the Heat. Miami could pull off a sign-and-trade for the NBA champion point guard.

The Heat picked up Goran Dragic’s team option for 2021-22 on Sunday. This is reportedly a precursor to a potential trade for Lowry.

ESPN salary cap insider Bobby Marks had more details.

Several teams have been linked to Lowry. However, the Heat are viewed by most as the favorite to land him.

“Miami’s status as the favorite to land Kyle Lowry was only enhanced by the decision to pick up Goran Dragic’s option for next season, league sources say. A sign-and-trade with Toronto for Lowry centered around Dragic’s $19.4MM deal for next season is an obvious route to a deal,” NBA insider Marc Stein reported.

The Heat are coming off a 2020-21 season that ended with a four-game sweep by the eventual NBA champion Bucks in the first round.

Adding Lowry could make the Heat more of a contender in 2021-22. He has significant postseason experience, winning a title with the Raptors in 2019.

NBA free agency is set to begin on Monday. We could have major movement with Lowry as early as Monday night.
