LeBron James doesn’t get to vote on the NBA’s MVP award, but the Los Angeles Lakers star made his would-be pick very clear on Sunday night.

The Lakers star revealed that he believes Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry is the league’s MVP this season. Curry and the Warriors are set to face LeBron and the Lakers in the No. 7 vs. No. 8 play-in game on Wednesday night.

“We’re playing versus, in my opinion, the MVP of our league this year in Steph,” James said following his team’s game on Sunday. “We got to be prepared for everything they have. They have championship DNA.”

Curry is not expected to win the NBA’s MVP award, though. Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic is the runaway favorite this year.

James, though, would go with Curry. The Warriors point guard is the NBA’s scoring champion.

“Everybody counted him out this year,” James said of Curry. “Everybody saying, ‘Now that Klay is hurt, can Steph lead a team on his own? What is he going to do? Can he carry a team on his own? Can he carry a team into the postseason? Can he keep the team afloat?’ He’s done that and more.”

While it’s understandable that LeBron feels Curry is the MVP, some aren’t happy with the perceived slight of Jokic.

While Jokic will get the NBA MVP for the regular season, Curry has a chance to do something really special in the postseason.

Golden State is set to take on Los Angeles in the play-in game on Wednesday night.

Tipoff is set for 10 p.m. E.T. on Wednesday.
