NBA World Reacts To Latest Ben Simmons Trade Rumors
Ever since his disappointing postseason performance with the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this year, Ben Simmons has been the focal point of NBA offseason trade rumors.
When the initial rumors emerged, the Sixers made it clear that they would only accept All-Star level talent in return for Simmons. Now, it appears they’ve loosened that distinction — not by much though.
According to reports from NBA insider Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Philly front office wanted four first-round draft picks, three pick swaps and a young player from the Spurs.
San Antonio of course refused this offer.
This massive trade return would be something you’d expect for a superstar talent, not a player coming off a postseason averaging just 11.9 points per game.
The NBA world took to Twitter to react to the Sixers’ outlandish trade proposal.
I almost respect the move to demand 7 picks to get rid of someone they don't want on their roster https://t.co/J3nICmHiIj

I’ve always said this, Philly is gonna play a big game when it comes to Bens value and act like he has the same value he once did before. They’ll come back down to earth once they realize no one is gonna pay them for Ben https://t.co/2yHKsexmhm

The Spurs reportedly aren’t the only team to receive an offer like this. According to O’Connor, the Sixers have reached out to other organizations with similarly unbalanced proposals.
“All these deals you hear about are outrageous. Nobody will do it for Ben Simmons,” O’Connor said on The Mismatch podcast.
Even after the three-time All Star and his agent, Rich Paul, floated the idea of a potential trade to Daryl Morey during a meeting back in June, the Sixers organization maintained that they hope to keep Simmons onboard as a centerpiece of the franchise moving forward.
For now at least, it appears the team will only part ways with Simmons if they can get a massive haul in return.
