The Los Angeles Lakers know that their championship window with LeBron James and Anthony Davis will shut sooner than later. The team had a pretty glaring need for better point guard play this past season, and will reportedly have their eyes on some huge prizes at that position this summer.

Obviously the biggest name who could conceivably be available is Damian Lillard. The California native insists that he has not demanded a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers, but we’ve seen situations like that change dramatically, especially if a chance to team up with Bron and AD pops up.

Chris Paul, one of LeBron’s best friends in the league, could be available if he opts out of his $44 million deal for next year. It is unclear how much the Lakers could offer the future Hall of Famer, and odds are he’ll return to the Phoenix Suns, after coming two games short of his first NBA title this year.

Magic Johnson has already chimed in, tweeting that the Lakers forming a Big Three with Chris Paul “will equal a NBA championship!” He’s not alone in being excited about that possibility.

Russell Westbrook, another Californian, could also be available. He had an up-and-down year with the Washington Wizards, who could be interested in moving off of him and look towards a rebuild. The team also had shooting guard Bradley Beal who they are reportedly committed to, which could complicate matters. Westbrook also has a big contract, which is set to pay him $44 million next year with a $47 million player option a year later.

Either would be a huge splash, and if there’s a league in which we could see it, it is the NBA. Of course, the Lakers may have to settle for a less star-studded option like bringing back former No. 2 pick Lonzo Ball, which has also been floated.

Whatever happens, it is clear that LeBron James, Rob Pelinka, and the Lakers brass aren’t sitting still this summer.
