Doggone it. The Prospect Heights, Brooklyn-based ice cream shop The Social has created a hot dog ice cream — a sweet and savory concoction they call “Let the Dogs Out.” Made with toasted bun ice cream with caramelized Nathan’s all-beef hot dogs, the first small batch they sold created such a frenzy with customers that co-owners Jackie Cuscuna and Brian Smith decided to make more. “We decided we needed to see if we could actually make it good — and nothing says summer like a Nathan’s hot dog and sweet bun ice cream,” Cuscuna said. The owners were the founders of the popular Ample Hill Creamery ice cream chain.

Blue Bunny offering Paid Time Off (PTO)

Blue Bunny’s special is the cherry on the top. Citing a recent survey that showed 61% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, the Chicago-headquartered company is currently accepting PTO (paid time off) requests until July 20. It will then choose 365 people to enjoy a PTO day on Blue Bunny — with a Visa gift card valued at $300. That works out to $37.50 an hour, which is five times the national average minimum wage. Applicants must share online why they deserve a day off. Comedian Kat Stickler has been tapped to help sift through applications in her new role as the brand’s Chief Fun Officer.
