"Tonight and tomorrow night will be some of the coldest we have seen so far this fall," NWS Nashville posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday morning.

Hard freeze to hit Nashville, Middle Tennessee

The first hard freeze of the year also has the potential to kill unprotected plants and crops, and cause a burst water pipe if you have any unprotected outside.

The NWS cautions people to take precautions now to avoid these. Here are some things to keep in mind as colder temperatures hit.

  • Check on vulnerable people

  • Bring pets inside

  • Cover sensitive plants or bring them inside if possible

  • Drain in-ground sprinkler systems

  • Make sure outdoor water pipes are covered, drained or left dripping to prevent freezing or bursting
