First Horizon Park, home of the Nashville Sounds and their famous guitar-shaped scoreboard, was voted the 10th best minor-league baseball stadium by a panel of industry experts, editors and readers as part of USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards.

Every week, USA TODAY 10Best invites A panel of industry experts nominate their favorite points of interest and attractions each week. From there, 10Best editors pick a list of nominees before four-week public-voting process decides the top 10.

Here's what editors had to say about the ballpark:

"Located in Germantown, First Horizon Park is home to the Nashville Sounds. On this same site, the Sulphur Dell baseball park hosted baseball games starting in 1870, including Negro League and Minor League Baseball teams. Today, there's much more to enjoy alongside baseball. The kids will love competing at the Fun Zone, where they can play the 9-hole mini golf course, see who throws the fastest pitch and play wiffle ball."

Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa tops the list. It is home to the Quad City River Bandits, a Class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Louisville Slugger field in Louisville, Kentucky, home of the comes in fifth on the list. Click here to see full list.

When did First Horizon Park open?

On April 17, 2015, a sellout crowd of 10,459 watched the Sounds, then a minor-league affiliate of the Oakland A's, defeat the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 3-2 in 10 innings thanks to a hit by Max Muncy. The stadium was then called First Tennessee Park.

Attendance that season, the team's 38th, was 565,548, the highest in 25 years.

How much did First Horizon Park cost to build, how was it funded?

Ground was broken on the well-over-budget $91 million project in January 2014. Former Mayor Karl Dean was the driving force behind the proposal for the stadium, which replaced Herschel Greer Stadium. The Nashville Metro Council approved the funding.

What's the story behind the guitar-shaped scoreboard at First Horizon Park?

The 4,200 square-foot scoreboard, the equivalent of 860 32-inch flat-screen TVs, is a modern iteration of the original guitar-shaped scoreboard that was at Greer Stadium. The original idea, used from 1993-2014, was the brainchild of former Sounds owner Larry Schmittou. The current scoreboard suffered heavy damage from an EF3 tornado in March 2020.

Which other teams have played at First Horizon Park?

Nashville SC played most of its first two seasons here while their stadium was being built. The Savannah Bananas, baseball's version of the Harlem Globetrotters, visited in 2023 and have plans to return this year in June. Click here to learn how to score tickets. In March 2016, Vanderbilt and Belmont became the first college baseball teams to play here. The Tennessee Vols baseball team played Samford in an exhibition there last November.

What is there to do at First Horizon Park?

"The Band Box," located beyond right field, is a popular gathering place for fans who like to play games while they watch the game. The space includes corn-hole, foosball, ping-pong and shuffleboard. There also is an outdoor bar.
