Nashville Predators' Filip Forsberg sets record, has 10th career hat trick in win vs Blackhawks

The playoff-bound Nashville Predators beat the Blackhawks 5-1 on Friday night at United Center in Chicago, sweeping the season series against their Central Division rivals.

Filip Forsberg not only scored his 10th career hat trick, he set a single-season franchise record with 46 goals, surpassing Matt Duchene's 43 set in 2022.

Forsberg's first goal put the Predators up 1-0 in the first period on the power play. Later in the first, Kiefer Sherwood scored on a rebound in front of Arvid Soderblom to make it 2-0.

The Predators added two more goals in the second period, one by Forsberg and one by Jason Zucker. Philipp Kurashev put the Blackhawks on the board with a power-play goal on a two-man advantage.

Forsberg's third goal, like his first, came on the power play, this time assisted by Ryan O'Reilly and Luke Evangelista.

Goalie Juuse Saros did not travel to Chicago for the game. With the team returning to Nashville on Saturday to play Columbus, and a potential travel-heavy playoff schedule ahead, Saros was given the night off. The team recalled Troy Grosenick from the Predators' AHL affiliate Milwaukee Admirals to back up Kevin Lankinen.

Lankinen finished with 25 saves for his 11th win of the season.

Nashville clinched a playoff berth Tuesday with the point earned in the overtime loss to Winnipeg. The Predators are destined for the top wild-card spot and a possible first-round matchup with Vancouver.
