Roman Josi's overtime goal helps push Predators past Maple Leafs; O’Reilly scores twice

First-year Nashville Predators coach Andrew Brunette didn’t spare change Saturday night before his team’s 3-2 overtime victory at Bridgestone Arena, which came courtesy of Roman Josi’s first goal of the season with 2 minutes, 46 seconds.

One constant remained, though: Ryan O’Reilly.

The 32-year-old center scored a pair of power-play goals to push his season total to four, tying him for the tam lead with Tommy Novak and Colton Sissons.

But things didn’t start out swiftly for the Predators.

Luke Evangelista had the Predators’ first shot on goal 1:45 into the game. Their second shot, this from Tyson Barrie, came almost seven minutes later.

The Maple Leafs (5-2-1), meanwhile, scored on their ninth shot, a power-play laser from William Nylander with 6:28 remaining in the first period.

O’Reilly’s power-play goal with 4:55 left in the first tied the score 1-1. It was his third goal of the season.

Mark Giordano’s first goal of the season put the Maple Leafs back ahead with 7:14 left in the second. O’Reilly’s second goal of the game tied the score 2-2 with 4:52 left in the period.

Liam Foudy, who was picked up from the waiver wire Oct. 20, saw his first action in a Predators uniform. Forward Philip Tomasino returned to the lineup after being a healthy scratch the previous three games. Gustav Nyquist skated on the top line with Filip Forsberg and O’Reilly, a place Juuso Parssinen had occupied before being moved to the fourth line.

Foudy played just 5 minutes, 25 seconds and Tomasino 7:55.

The Predators (4-4-0) are set to embark on a five-game road trip that will take them to Vancouver, Seattle, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg.

Their next home game is Nov. 11 against the Arizona Coyotes.
