Nashville police arrest one after man shot in head, killed at University Court complex

A man is dead and another in jail after a fatal shooting at a University Court apartment complex.

Nashville police were called to the apartment complex at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday in reference to the shooting.

According to court records, 31-year-old Joshua Coffee walked to an apartment in the complex. While there, he shot 27-year-old Alcapone Branch in the head before fleeing to another apartment, according to the arrest affidavit.

Video footage from the complex captured Coffee walking to and then leaving the apartment where Branch was shot. A witness in the apartment told police she saw the shooting, according to the arrest affidavit.

Coffee was found at the second apartment with a 9mm handgun in his possession, the affidavit said. It also noted that a 9mm gun was used in the shooting.

Coffee told police that he'd argued with Branch before the shooting, according to a news release.

Coffee was booked into the Downtown Detention Center just after 6:30 a.m. Friday, where he's being held without bond on a charge of criminal homicide. He was also charged with possession of a handgun as a felon.
