Nashville man killed in ‘prank’ robbery gone wrong, police say

A Nashville man is claiming self-defense after fatally shooting another man Friday night in a suspected “prank” robbery, according to police.

Cops said David Starnes Jr., 23, killed Timothy Wilks, 20, in the parking lot outside an indoor trampoline park, the Associated Press reported. The two were outside Urban Air in the city’s northeast neighborhood of Hermitage.

Witnesses said Wilks and a friend were filming a YouTube prank robbery video when they approached a group of people with butcher knives, according to the AP.

Police said Starnes was in the group and fatally shot Wilks, not knowing it was a prank, local NBC affiliate WSMV reported. Starnes told police he acted in self-defense.

Cops are investigating his account, and no charges were filed as of Saturday morning.
