Nashville man faces homicide charges after admitting to shooting family friend

A 30-year-old man faces criminal homicide charges in connection to the fatal shooting of a family friend Thursday in South Nashville.

Metro Nashville police said in a release that Timothy Gibbons Jr. and Alan Howard, 63, got into a vehicle of one of Howard's friends when Gibbons told police Howard became aggressive, striking him with fists and open hands.

Gibbons told police he pulled out his pistol and was chambering a round with his finger on the trigger and shot Howard in the chest. Gibbons got out of the vehicle and told family members to call the police.

The release said Howard's friend had been driving the vehicle, but he was not at the home when police arrived.
