NASCAR Announces Punishment For Denny Hamlin’s Tweet

Late Monday night, NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin apologized for an insensitive tweet that he posted on his Twitter account.

The popular driver published a video from ‘Family Guy’ that showed an Asian driver cutting off cars without signaling. In the clip, he had Kyle Larson’s name superimposed over the driver as a way to make fun of him.

Over the weekend, Larson caused a crash during the GEICO 500 on Sunday. While Hamlin might have thought the clip was funny, it was clearly insensitive as Larson is of Asian descent.

NASCAR saw the clip – even though Hamlin eventually deleted the tweet. He must undergo sensitivity training by the end of the week.

“NASCAR has informed Denny Hamlin that he must complete sensitivity training and the process must be started by the end of this week,” NASCAR reporter Bob Pockrass said.

Late Monday night, Hamlin apologized for his actions – which may have lessened the punishment from NASCAR.

“I took down a post I made earlier today after reading some of the comments,” Hamlin tweeted. “It was a poor choice of memes and I saw how it was offensive. It came across totally wrong. I apologize.”

Perhaps Hamlin will take a minute to think about his tweets before publishing them.
