N.Y. State Sen. Roxanne Persaud accidentally thanks Cuomo at Hochul event: ‘I can’t believe I did that’

Cuo-No!

State Sen. Roxanne Persaud (D-Brooklyn) accidentally referred to Gov. Hochul as “Gov. Cuomo” at an event Friday focused on child care affordability.

“Gov. Cuomo, thank you for —” Persaud said in the gubernatorial gaffe, generating gasps at the Hebrew Educational Society in her Canarsie district.

“I can’t believe I did that,” said Persaud, plainly embarrassed by her reference to the current governor’s disgraced predecessor, Andrew Cuomo.

Moments later, Persaud ripped into Cuomo, who resigned from office last summer, tarnished by a double-digit tally of sexual harassment allegations leveled against him. Cuomo has denied the allegations of harassment.

Hochul was Cuomo’s lieutenant, but had a strained relationship with him; she became governor when he resigned.

“Gov. Cuomo was not interested in this,” Persaud said of child care investments. “And that’s why that name was in my head.”

“We had asked for the investment in families,” Persaud added. “We had pleaded for the investment in families. Gov. Hochul came on board, and she says: ‘Absolutely.’”
