Mystikal enters not guilty plea in Louisiana rape, drugs case

“Danger” rapper Mystikal pleaded not guilty to rape and drug charges after being accused of assaulting a woman in his Louisiana home in late July.

The 51-year-old performer, born Michael Tyler, is accused of raping and choking an unidentified woman and could spend life in prison if convicted. He’s also accused of possessing heroin, methamphetamine and Xanax, according to defense attorney Joel Pearce, who told the Associated Press the Grammy nominated rapper doesn’t use drugs.

“He has absolutely no idea what they were talking about,” Pearce said.

Prosecutors are expected to introduce Mystikal’s 2003 sexual battery guilty plea during the rapper’s Oct. 17 bond hearing. He spent six years in prison on that charge, which followed a hairstylist claiming she was pressured to do something “degrading” after the performer accused her of stealing checks from him. The victim denied stealing from him.

In 2017, Tyler was jailed for almost 18 months and paid a $3 million bond after being detained on rape and kidnapping charges prosecutors in northwest Louisiana wound up dropping. He’d been accused of sexually assaulting someone in a Shreveport casino. Those charges were dismissed when a grand jury chose not to bring a new indictment against the rapper.

Tyler is also being held for suspicion of domestic abuse, simple robbery and battery, which are all felonies.
