Myrtle Beach, SC area church receives online threats over Mica Miller’s death, police say

A Myrtle Beach church reported to Myrtle Beach Police threats it had received days after the death of its pastor’s wife.

An unnamed woman at Solid Rock Church, 803 Howard Ave., in Market Common, reported to police on May 1, 2024, that the church had received multiple Facebook messages and emails since the passing of John-Paul Miller’s wife, Mica Miller, according to a police report. The woman was identified as one of the pastors at the church.

A message left for the church Friday morning was not immediately returned. The church has disabled its website, but it’s Facebook page is still in operation.

Mica Miller, 30, of Myrtle Beach, died April 27, 2024. She was found in a North Carolina state park with a gunshot wound to her head. Her death has since been ruled a suicide by North Carolina law enforcement.

Her death has gained national attention and has been the topic of social media posts, many using #justiceforMica.

The officer was shown messages to the church about “canceling and ending the church for its lies,” the report said. The report said that certain Facebook groups and TikTok videos have been “dispersing stories about the church.”

The report said that John-Paul Miller was not at the church to meet with officers. The report said that there was no harassment.

An email message left for John-Paul Miller’s attorney was not returned by publication.

John-Paul Miller was relieved as pastor of the church following his wife’s death.

He has denied abusing his wife in an interview with The Sun News on May 3, 2024, saying that his wife suffered from mental illness and had been hospitalized many times during their marriage.

Mica Miller’s family have posted on social media regarding her death, alluding to false information and abuse that Mica had suffered. Mica Miller too posted on her Facebook about abuse and leaving a dangerous situation with the hashtag, “abuseawareness.”

John-Paul Miller notified the church congregation of his wife’s death during an April 28, 2024, sermon, including the fact that her death was self-induced.

The two had apparently been separated since February 2024 and Mica Miller had filed for divorce on April 15, 2024, according to court documents.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Department ruled Mica Miller’s death a suicide. According to a Facebook post Tuesday, May 7, 2024, the North Carolina law enforcement agency said the decision was based on surveillance footage, interviews, physical evidence and the examination of the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office.

The department released a 911 tape of Mica Miller calling police dispatch, asking the dispatcher if her phone could be located because she was going to kill herself and wanted her family to be able to find her body.
