Myrtle Beach was ranked number one in “Best Places to Live” in South Carolina by a national study for 2022 and 2023.

“Young professionals, growing families and empty nesters who are drawn to the area’s mild weather and beaches set down roots here and enjoy the area’s relatively low cost of living,” the study states.

U.S. News & World Report ranked metro areas using five indexes based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the FBI, the U.S. Department of Labor and other internal resources. The indexes were then sent out in a public survey in March to determine which factors people thought were the most important when it comes to choosing a place to live. Here are the five factors and how they were weighted in the methodology.

  • Job Market (20%)

  • Housing Affordability (25%)

  • Quality of life (32.5%)

  • Desirability (17.5%)

  • Net migration (5%)

Myrtle Beach scored another first place ranking in “fastest growing places” by the same report, which measured the growth or decline of a metro area over the past five years.

Overall, Myrtle Beach, SC was ranked No. 37 out of 150 metro areas across the U.S.
