Muskingum softball falls in Super Regional opener

VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA — Muskingum started the Division III Super Regional strong on Thursday.

The Muskies scored in the opening inning, but were limited to three hits in a 6-1 loss to host Virginia Wesleyan in the first game of the Super Regional.

Game 2 will be played at 1 p.m. Friday, and Game 3, if necessary, will follow that game around 3:30 p.m.

Cara Taylor led off the game by reaching on an error and Kalie Eshelman followed with a single. After a groundout moved the runners up a base, Sadie Smith's groundout brought in Taylor for a 1-0 lead.

The Marlins tied the game at 1 with a run in the bottom of the third and they made it 3-1 with two runs in the third, including a go-ahead solo home run by Alison Pollack.

Virginia Wesleyan then used four hits in a three-run sixth to secure the win.

Emma Adams tossed a three-hitter with four strikeouts in the victory, while Madelyn Thomas went the distance in the loss, giving up six runs on nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Taryn Mickley and Tareyn Born also had hits for the Muskies.
