Murfreesboro area high school basketball postseason top performers: Riverdale girls advance

Riverdale's girls basketball team is headed to the region after defeating Siegel 59-56 in the District 8-4A play-in game Tuesday at Oakland High School.

The Lady Warriors (6-20), the No. 5 seed, took a 30-19 halftime lead and held off a second-half surge by the Lady Stars (9-19). Riverdale will face No. 1 seed Blackman at 6 p.m. in Thursday's district semifinals.

Oakland's boys also advanced, defeating Riverdale 69-44. The fourth-seeded Patriots (9-17) will play No. 1 seed Siegel on Friday at 6 p.m. in the semis.

In DII-A Middle Region action, Providence Christian's girls advanced to tournament semifinals and secured a spot in the state round of 12 with a 38-31 win over Nashville Christian Tuesday. The Lady Lions (21-4) will play in the semifinals Friday at 4 p.m. vs. Ezell-Harding at Middle Tennessee Christian School.

Ezell-Harding eliminated MTCS 52-40 Tuesday, ending the Lady Cougars' season at 14-13. MTCS had reached the state title game each of the previous two seasons.

Central Magnet's boys advanced in the District 8-3A tourney, defeating Giles County 55-48. The Tigers will face host Marshall County on Friday at 8:30 p.m. in the semis.

Cannon County's girls advanced to the District 9-2A championship game with a 62-26 win over Grundy County in the semis Tuesday. The Lionettes will play host Cascade in Thursday's title game at 7:30.

Eagleville's girls advanced to the 9-1A title game with a 61-49 win over Huntland at Eagleville. The Lady Eagles will face Moore County Friday at 7:30 in the finals.

Ashley Rucker, MTCS: Scored 17 points in a 52-40 loss to Ezell-Harding in the DII-A Middle Region quarterfinals.

Anna Clay Shirley, MTCS: Scored 10 points.

Kayte Madison Bjornstad, PCA: Scored 16 points with 10 rebounds in a 38-31 win over Nashville Christian in the DII-A Middle Region quarterfinals.

Chloe Houard, Riverdale: Scored 17 points in a 59-56 win over Siegel in the 8-4A tournament.
