Murder Mystery 2's cliffhanger wasn't the film's original ending, according to director Jeremy Garelick.
Nick (Adam Sandler) and Audrey Spitz (Jennifer Aniston) are back on the case in Netflix's whodunnit sequel, which sees the amateur detective couple track down their friend Vik after he's kidnapped at his own wedding.
At the end of the film, Vik thanks Nick and Audrey for rescuing him by gifting them with a bag full of cash, which is delivered by the helicopter pilot who took them to the wedding.

That same pilot takes the pair to Athens for their long-awaited honeymoon, but just before the end credits roll, he grabs the bag of money and jumps out of the helicopter, leaving Nick and Audrey mid-air with nobody in charge of their flight.
The cliffhanger perfectly sets up a potential Murder Mystery threequel, but Garelick has revealed that it wasn't the original plan.
"It was in a version of the script, but it was also – actually, now that I think of it, we were actually planning on shooting a different scene for the ending, but because of COVID, the thing that we needed for that scene didn't get there in time," he told Collider.

Garelick continued: "So we had to come up with a different idea. So I remember pitching this to Adam, this idea, and then we just kind of did a pass at the scene and it was fun.
"It was a fun way to end, and it definitely makes the audience wonder what's happening next, you know?"
