Multiple vehicle crash on Tacoma Narrows Bridge backs up westbound state Route 16
A multiple vehicle crash on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge has caused state Route 16 westbound traffic to slow significantly.
The wreck occurred just before 4 p.m. Monday, according to Tacoma Fire Department spokesperson Mary Hallman. In a phone call with the newspaper, she said four cars were involved in the crash. She did not know whether anyone was injured.

Firefighters have blocked two of the four westbound lanes. The Washington State Department of Transportation traffic map illustrates traffic slowing back to the highway’s interchange with I-5.
Hallman noted that at about 4:50 p.m., only one tow vehicle was on the scene clearing the crash. Because of that, she said, firefighters could not provide an estimate of when the lanes would clear.
