Multiple people shot at Indianapolis FedEx facility, shooter dies by suicide: police

Multiple people were shot a FedEx facility in Indianapolis late Thursday night, and the gunman killed himself, police said.
Police were called to the scene at around 11 p.m. after reports of a shooting, police spokeswoman Genae Cook said early Friday morning.

“We have multiple people with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds,” she said.
Cook did not say how many people had been shot, but said some victims had been taken to area hospitals.
She also said the shooter “has taken his own life” and there was no active threat.
Officials declared the scene a ““mass casualty, Level 1,” TV station WISH reported.

“I saw a man with a submachine gun of some sort, an automatic rifle, and he was firing in the open,” Jeremiah Miller told the TV station.
The FedEx facility is near Indianapolis International Airport.
Interstate 70 was closed in both directions in the area late Thursday night “due to police activity in the area,” but the road was reopened early Friday morning, tweeted Sgt. Scott Perrine, a State Police spokesman.
FedEx released a statement early Friday stating, “We are aware of the tragic shooting at our FedEx Ground facility near the Indianapolis airport. Safety is our top priority, and our thoughts are with all those who are affected. We are working to gather more information and are cooperating with investigating authorities.”
