Here’s how much USC is paying for non-conference women’s basketball games in 2022-23

South Carolina will spend $99,500 to host non-conference opponents for the 2022-23 women’s basketball season.

Five of the team’s seven regular-season home games are against smaller schools that will receive compensation as part of their agreement to come to Colonial Life Arena. USC will also compensate Benedict for the home exhibition game on Oct. 31.

Power Five teams often pay for non-conference games to fill out their schedules, and it also helps the opposing teams get funding for their programs. The USC football team does a similar thing each year — at a much more expensive rate — paying more than $3 million this year in total to three opponents.

USC women’s basketball signed a “home-and-home” contracts with UCLA and Memphis, so no money is exchanged when facing those larger schools. The Gamecocks will travel to UCLA and Memphis some time next season as part of the agreement.

Here’s the breakdown of South Carolina’s non-conference spending this season.

OCT. 31: VS. BENEDICT (Exhibition)

South Carolina will pay Benedict of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference $7,500 for the teams’ exhibition game this year. The complete payment is to be paid on or before March 31, 2023.

Other notes:

  • The cancellation fee is $7,500 and applies to the “breaching party.”

  • USC will furnish 75 complimentary tickets to the Tigers.

  • The team played its exhibition against Benedict last year as well.

NOV. 7: HOME VS. ETSU

South Carolina will face East Tennessee State in its home opener, spending $24,000 to play the Buccaneers. That money is due by April 30, 2023.

Other notes:

NOV. 27: HOME VS. HAMPTON

USC plays Hampton in November and will spend $19,000 for the game. The payment is to be made on or before March 31 of next year.

Other notes:

  • The cancellation fee for the canceling party is $25,000.

  • South Carolina will furnish 75 tickets to Hampton, and the Pirates can purchase an additional 25 tickets.

DEC. 11: HOME VS. LIBERTY

The Gamecocks host Liberty in December. They will pay $15,000 to host the game, which is due to Liberty on or before March 31, 2023.

Other notes:

  • The cancellation fee is $50,000.

  • Liberty can purchase 25 tickets on top of the 75 complimentary tickets provided by USC.

DEC 18: HOME VS. CHARLESTON SOUTHERN

USC hosts the Big South’s Charleston Southern and will pay CSU $15,000 on or before March 31, 2023.

Other notes:

  • The canceling party will pay $50,000.

  • The Buccaneers will get 75 complimentary tickets and the option to buy 25 more.

DEC 21: HOME VS. COASTAL CAROLINA

The Gamecocks close out their non-conference games with Coastal Carolina. The team will pay the Chanticleers $19,000 on or before March 31, 2023.

Other notes:

  • There is a $25,000 cancellation fee.

  • Coastal Carolina will receive 75 complimentary tickets and the opportunity to purchase 25 more tickets.
