Ms Marvel and The Marvels spoilers follow.

Ms Marvel star Iman Vellani has admitted she didn't expect to be a "main character" in The Marvels.

The upcoming movie will unite all of the Marvels in the MCU, as Vellani's character Kamala Khan shares the screen with Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) for the first time.

This key role in the future of the MCU came as a surprise to Vellani, who recently opened up to Variety about how she found out about her casting in The Marvels.

"It was a night shoot when they were announcing everything at Disney Investor Day," she recalled. "Right before they announced The Marvels cast, I get a text from Disney PR, I get a text from Brie Larson and I get a text from our producers all at the same time saying I'm in the movie and then they announced it on the screen.

"I was like, 'Thank you.' I had a hunch I was going to be in it, but more of a cameo role, not an actual main character, so it was cool."

Vellani also offered hopes of Kamala meeting more MCU characters in the future, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness's young hero America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez).

"She's the most amazing, tiny human ever and I love her," she said. "We really got along and it's nice to have that shared experience, because she shot Doctor Strange in the same place we shot The Marvels, so we were just bonding over being in London and what that was like because we were both the youngest person on our set."

The actress is a Marvel super-fan even away from her series, having recently sounded off on both the new Doctor Strange film and her residual feelings about Avengers: Endgame.

The Marvels, has a release date of July 28, 2023. Captain Marvel is streaming on Disney+ and available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download.
