New movie theater, restaurant with wide array of whiskeys opening in Blue Ash

A Cincinnati suburb is getting a brand-new movie theater.

ACX Cinemas will open a theater location in Blue Ash along with a Backlot Pizza + Kitchen this year, the Nebraska-based company announced in a press release.

The company plans to open the movie theater, called ACX Cinema 7+, on May 24, Andrea Barstow-Olson, executive vice president of marketing and partnerships, said in an email. Backlot Pizza + Kitchen's opening will follow four to eight weeks later.

Backlot Pizza + Kitchen specializes in Detroit-style pizza, craft cocktails, live music and a wide array of whiskeys, which Barstow-Olson said will also be available at this location.

Backlot Pizza + Kitchen restaurants are part of other ACX Cinemas around the country.

A full grand opening event will take place once the restaurant is open.

ACX Cinema 7+, located at 4780 Cornell Road, will include seven auditoriums. Two of the auditoriums will have Dolby Atmos, which is a popular surround sound technology. An arcade will be added later this year.

Both ACX Cinemas and Backlot Pizza + Kitchen are new to Ohio. ACX Cinemas also has theaters in Chicago, Iowa, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Backlot Pizza + Kitchen has two other locations − one in Wisconsin and the other in Nebraska.

The announcement of the new Blue Ash movie theater comes shortly after a slew of theater closures in the Greater Cincinnati Area.

Pierce Point Cinema 10 in Clermont County closed earlier this month. This followed the closures of Cinema 10 Middletown earlier this year and the Xscape theater at the Northgate Mall in Colerain Township late last year.
