Movie 'Beyond the Rush' will film at North Jersey locations through April 5

North Jersey, get ready to run into some film stars in the next several weeks as the area will be used as a backdrop in the production of "Beyond the Rush," a film expected to be released in October.

Writer, director and producer Rob Sayegh will film his latest movie at locations in Hudson, Bergen, Essex, and Passaic counties. Crews will work in Jersey City, Ridgewood, Edgewater, Montclair and Passaic.

Filming now through April 5, the movie follows an investigative journalist who battles addiction and obsession, while working to expose a corrupt judge, all while trying to be reunited with his abusive mother who was committed to a mental institution when he was a boy.

The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Cathy Moriarity from "Raging Bull," John Savage from "The Deer Hunter," and Eric Roberts from "Runaway Train." Mena Suvari from "American Beauty" and Bill Barrett from Tyler Perry's "The Oval" lead the cast.

Other familiar faces on set include Frankie Faison from "Do the Right Thing," Jayce Bartok from "The Cake Eaters" (who's also a co-executive producer), Chris Egan from "Resident Evil," and Amanda Clayton from "Bleed for This."

Is New Jersey the next Hollywood?

New Jersey remains one of the top choices for film directors. Movies that were filmed in the state include "The Godfather" in 1972, "Mean Girls", "Joker", the recent "Oppenheimer", "Walking Dead", "The Irishman" and many more. "The Sopranos" HBO series filmed throughout New Jersey with its final scene set inside Holsten's in Bloomfield.

According to the Digital Cinema Report, New Jersey employed more than 8,500 people in the film industry throughout 2023. Netflix is investing $1 billion for its East Coast flagship production studio at Fort Monmouth, followed by Lionsgate and 1880 studios, which are building their studios in Newark and Bayonne, respectively.

"It’s expected that by 2026, the motion picture industry in the state will amount to $1 billion per year and, by 2035, the industry will cross the multi-billion-dollar threshold," the report says.

In a statement, Jerry Nardella, founder of NJ Entertainment Developer said he is thrilled about the state's growing role in the film industry. He said "Beyond the Rush" is one example of how New Jersey is becoming a "top spot for filmmakers."
