The Mountain West announced in May that it would eliminate its two football divisions beginning with the 2023 season. On Thursday, the conference revealed what its new schedule rotation will look like through 2025.

The conference will continue scheduling eight league games a season. The new rotation was created by a subcommittee of Mountain West athletic directors and was formally approved by the entire group, according to the league.

During the three-year cycle, every team will face nine of the 11 other teams in the conference at least twice, and every team has two guaranteed opponents it will face every year. The top two teams based on winning percentage against conference opponents will meet at the end of the year in the championship game.

The new rotation “enhances the opportunity of matching the two best teams in the Mountain West Football Championship game annually, providing access to the New Year’s 6/College Football Playoff more frequently,” the conference said in a news release on Thursday.

Boise State’s guaranteed opponents are defending Mountain West champion Utah State and New Mexico, a program that hasn’t finished a season with a winning record since 2016.

Boise State and Utah State have played every year since 2013, and the Broncos are 8-1 during that span. The Broncos have won six straight against the Aggies, and Boise State leads the overall series 21-5.

The Broncos are 11-1 all-time again New Mexico.

This season, the last with divisions, the Broncos will host San Diego State, Fresno State, Colorado State and Utah State and face New Mexico, Air Force, Nevada and Wyoming on the road. Boise State opens the season Sept. 3 at Oregon State.
