A deadly crash early Thursday morning on Interstate 95 shut down all northbound lanes of traffic for hours in Broward County.

Florida Highway Patrol received a dispatch at 3:12 a.m. Thursday about a fatality on northbound I-95 in Broward County. Authorities closed all northbound lanes between Broward and Sunrise boulevards for several hours.

The crash involved two motorcycles — a 2020 BMW and a 2012 Yamaha, according to the FHP.

The driver of the BMW, a 36-year-old man from Tamarac, was heading north just south of Sunrise Boulevard when he went down for unknown reasons and skidded across three lanes. The motorcycle burst into flames, said FHP Lt. Indiana Miranda.

The driver of the Yamaha, a 43-year-old woman from Pompano Beach, crashed into the downed motorcycle, Miranda said.

While the man was on the ground, he was run over by several vehicles, said Miranda.

The FHP has not named either rider. The man died at the scene, and the woman was hospitalized with severe leg injuries, troopers say.

The crash remains under investigation.
