Mother's Ale House sold in Wayne. Here's what we know about the buyer and its plan
WAYNE — The sports bar once known as Mother’s Ale House & Grill has been sold to a local investor for $1.7 million, but the future of the historic building that it occupied was not clear this week.
Tax records show that a limited liability company named Mountain Mother’s Ale bought the property at 95 Mountainview Blvd. in December.
The entity, which filed for state registration in January 2023, has the same address as Driscoll Foods, among the largest independent food distributors in the region.
The family-owned company has a warehouse of more than half a million square feet at 6 Westbelt, off Route 23 south and about 2 miles from the former bar and restaurant.
Driscoll Foods did not respond to an inquiry about the transaction.
There are no outward signs that business will pick up anytime soon at the ale house, which closed in August 2022.

An empty dumpster had been plunked down in the parking lot, and a banner advertising specials for “taco Tuesday” remained stretched out across a decorative railing on the north side of the building.
Stools were turned upside down, still resting on the bar.
The 11,695-square-foot tavern shut down after its owner defaulted on its mortgage, and the property was foreclosed on.
It was owned for generations by the Gabriel family, which operated a hotel and an Italian-American restaurant there. The three-story building was originally an inn for boat passengers along the Morris Canal.
