Motherland star Paul Ready has landed his next movie role in a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet called All That Glitters.

The new film, which comes from writer and director Peter Lavery, is set in a contemporary school filled with anxious teens and TikTok, according to Deadline.

The film stars House of the Dragon's Elliot Grihault as Ryan, who is the lighting technician on his school's production of William Shakespeare's classic tragedy, directed by his dad Philip (Ready).

However, the teen falls in love with the play's lead actress Jasmine, and is visited by the ghost of Shakespeare as the Bard teaches him the role of Romeo so he can star alongside Jasmine.

While he is initially hesitant, Ryan decides to audition with Shakespeare by his side – though he faces obstacles in his quest for Jasmine's heart in the form of her older friend Billy, as well as other potential Romeos.

“Peter has written a beautiful script, full of great characters, humour, heartache, humanity and maybe above all – a lot of love," Ready said.

"Something I feel we could all use in these times. I’m very much looking forward to working with him and bringing his wonderful film to life.”

Lavery added: “We’ve landed an incredible cast for All That Glitters, which is a wonderful story that will allow young adults to experience Shakespeare with a twist.

"As someone who had a hard time understanding Shakespeare in school, I am interested in exploring the continued relevance of his writing.

"I am particularly intrigued by the idea of a sixteen-year-old protagonist who embarks on his own coming-of-age journey with the aid of Shakespeare himself, in a story reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet as a vehicle for encouraging young adults to the Bard’s writing.”

Ready is perhaps best known for playing the loveably hapless dad Kevin in Motherland, and has also appeared in Bodyguard, The Terror and MotherFatherSon.
