Most expensive Upstate home is on the market: Here's why it is selling for $12 million

"A remarkable beauty with extraordinary views."

These are the words David Vandeputte with Joan Herlong & Associates Sotheby's International Realty used to describe the record-breaking $12 million home currently for sale on the Upstate market.

The lakefront home, located at 132 Mountain Shore Trail in the town of Six Mile and perched on the edge of Lake Keowee, will be the most expensive property sold in the region should it be sold at asking price.

The home would dethrone the last home sold at a similar asking price. In 2022, a Simpsonville 38-acre estate was sold for $9 million, a record held by Joan Herlong.

Other lakeside homes in the current market are asking between $5 million and $8 million. Here's what to know about today's priciest home in the Upstate market.

What views does the home have to offer?

The home offers what Vandeputte says is the "trifecta of views," giving way for magnificent sunset and mountain scenery as you watch from one of the multiple surrounding balconies. Three sides of the home are met with 1,000 feet of shoreline, as well as a private beach.

There is much to see when it comes to the home's natural settings, but did you know the home has an aerial view, too? From the sky, the home is shaped like a particular farm animal.

"If you look at Google Maps in aerial view, it looks like a turkey. You'll see the tail of the turkey, you'll see the back of the turkey, you'll see the neck of the turkey, and you'll see the head of the turkey," said Vandeputte. "Picture the driveway of the homesite being the neck and picture the home sitting on the turkey's head."

Country living doesn't get any better than that.

What are some of the home's details?

Built in 2013, the 9,646 square-foot home boasts six bedrooms and six baths throughout, each bedroom with views of the water. There are three floors to the home, each serviced by an elevator. Two ensuites are located on the upper level. A four-car garage awaits as you pull up to the residence.

European white oak graces the ceilings and flooring of the Old-World European style home. High reclaimed ceilings and beams give warmth to those who walk underneath, each area of the living space touched with modern features and finishes. On the main floor is the primary suite, which has two closets, vanities, and water closets.

The chef of the home will appreciate the under roof outdoor kitchen featuring a breakfast nook, Big Green Egg, island, and Wolf grill. For fun in the sun, the family can soak in the hot tub or saltwater pool. The icing to top off this creme de la creme property are the 27-foot Barletta tri-toon boat and 27-foot Cobalt bowrider, which will be sold with the home.

The home is part of the Cliffs at Keowee Springs, where members of the subdivision enjoy resort-style amenities including dining, golfing, a gym, hiking, pickleball, and tennis.

Vandeputte says the new owner who purchases the property will only need to arrive "with a toothbrush." This is because the home will come fully furnished.

What was the inspiration behind the design?

According to previous Talk Magazine coverage, the home was designed with family and forever in mind. Despite being only 10 years old, the home was built to feel like it has been around for generations. This was achieved through the use of reclaimed beams, baseboards and doors. Authentic plaster walls and tile replicated the look of well-worn stone. The wine room was also designed to appear as a cellar.

The home's previous owners envisioned it to be a gathering place for their two daughters, their daughters' husbands, and four grandchildren. This is why the property includes separate bunk rooms for girls and boys, a game room, and sprawling gathering areas inside and outside.

"The grandkids are in college. The youngest one is going to start college in the fall, so they're just not in here. They're busy working, school, and whatnot. They're just not getting good use of that home anymore," Vandeputte said. "It's time to let somebody else build generational memories."
