To find the most expensive in-state college tuition in every state, GOBankingRates sourced undergraduate enrollment, the average in-state total cost of tuition including fees and the average total amount of student debt across U.S. public colleges.

Methodology: For this study, GOBankingRates analyzed U.S. public colleges to find the most expensive in-state college tuition. Undergraduate enrollment, average in-state total cost of tuition plus fees, and average total amount of student debt were sourced from U.S. News & World Report to find the most expensive college in each state as well as the 25 most expensive public colleges by in-state tuition. The states were sorted to show the most expensive to least expensive by state. All data was collected on and is up to date as of May 6, 2024.
