Most Americans can buy recreational marijuana legally. And they don't have to go far

If you live in the United States, there's a good chance that you can not only do it but do it legally.

While still illegal under federal law, most Americans now live in a state where marijuana is legal, and now most have at least one legal dispensary in their county.

The information comes from a new Pew Research Center study.

The results say 54 percent of Americans live in a state where recreational weed is legal, and 74 percent live in a state where medical marijuana use is legal.

There are almost 15,000 dispensaries in the country, and nearly 75 percent of Americans reside in a state with a dispensary.

In New Jersey, recreational use was legalized about two years ago.

Other states that allow recreational marijuana are Colorado, Washington, Alaska, Oregon, California, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Michigan, Vermont, Guam, Illinois, Arizona, Montana, New York, Virginia, New Mexico, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, Missouri, Delaware, Minnesota and Ohio. It's also legal in Washington, D.C.
