Moses Brown's Myles Craddock was named Gatorade RI Football Player of the Year. Here's why.

During the last two football seasons, Myles Craddock has established himself as one of the best players Moses Brown has ever produced. Now he can add another line to his already impressive resumé.

Craddock made school history on Wednesday when he was named the 2023 Gatorade Rhode Island Football Player of the Year, becoming the first Quaker to earn the honor.

After leading Moses Brown to the Division III Super Bowl last year, earning MVP honors along the way, Craddock’s senior season hit a speed bump when an injury sidelined him for two games. Those games were the only two the Quakers lost this past fall.

Moses Brown needed to win its final two games to make the playoffs. Craddock ran for 191 yards and two touchdowns in a win over West Warwick, and followed that with a 248-yard, three-touchdown performance against Pilgrim that earned the Quakers the No. 4 seed in the Division III playoffs.

That sent Moses Brown to Middletown for a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl. Craddock ran for 173 yards and two touchdowns but it wasn’t enough to defeat the eventual Division III champions.

The loss didn’t take away from an impressive season for Craddock. He ran for 1,504 yards and 21 touchdowns and was one of the state’s best defensive backs as well. After earning Providence Journal First Team All-State honors at running back as a junior, he's in line for a repeat selection.

Craddock excelled on the football field, but was equally impressive away from it. He serves as a Moses Brown student copresident and carries a 3.48 grade point average. He also volunteers locally at the Camp Street Food Pantry and on behalf of Play 60, an NFL youth flag football program.

It’s the first time a Moses Brown football player has been honored by Gatorade and the second time a boy has won from the school, following Poom Mera for boys soccer in 2016-17. Craddock is the fifth of the school's athletes to have been honored by Gatorade, following Mera, Sophia Gorriaran (girls track, 2019-2023), Ali Blanchard (softball, 2017-18) and Oluchi Ezemma (girls basketball, 2016-18).

Craddock is the second private school football player to be honored in the last eight years after St. Raphael's Moses Meus won last year and Hendricken’s Kwity Paye was honored for his 2016 season. He’s the first Division III player to earn the award since Classical’s Samuel Baddoo, also the last running back to win, was honored for his spring season in 2021.

Where Craddock will play next is still undecided. He currently holds an offer from St. Anselm, a Division II school, and another from Boston College.
